A bicycle race was held at Heavitree near Polsloe House on August 11th 1870. The Western Times of August 5th 1870 announced the event "A bicycle race to be run in heats, at 6pm each day. First prize £1, second prize 10s. Entrance to the field 3d. Grand stand 6d. The bicycle race was run in conjunction with a wrestling match in a field adjoining the Vicarage Meadows.
